Dungeon Master II: The Legend of Skullkeep is a classic real-time dungeon crawler RPG developed by FTL Games and released for DOS in 1993. Building upon the grid-based foundation of its legendary predecessor, it introduces outdoor environments, a revamped magic system, and more complex monster AI while keeping the intricate puzzles and resource management that defined the series.
How to play
Navigate the grid-based world in real-time, surviving by managing your party’s health, stamina, hunger, and thirst. You must solve environmental puzzles and battle enemies using a combination of melee attacks and rune-based magic. For the DOS version in your browser, standard keyboard controls apply: use the arrow keys or number pad for movement, and the mouse to interact with the environment, inventory, and combat UI. Press Right Alt + Enter for fullscreen.
Tips
- Practice the rune magic system early; memorizing the combinations for essential spells like light, healing, and fireballs will save you in real-time combat.
- Don’t let yourself get surrounded. Use the game’s grid-based movement to kite tougher enemies, attacking them from the side or behind before stepping away.
- Always keep an eye on your party’s food and water meters. Gather supplies whenever possible to prevent starvation while exploring deeper into Skullkeep.
