Game description:

Duke Nukem 64 is a fast-paced first-person shooter brought to the Nintendo 64 by 3D Realms Entertainment in 1997. Serving as a reworked port of the iconic PC original, this version offers a fully 3D environment with revised level designs, altered weapons, and the objective of blasting through waves of alien invaders to save Earth. It trades some of the original’s adult themes for new secrets, fully polygonal explosions, and exclusive armaments like the dual submachine guns.

How to Play

Your goal is to navigate through multi-layered levels, find keycards to unlock new areas, and defeat the alien threat. In the browser emulator, the N64 analog stick is typically mapped to the arrow keys for movement, while the Z trigger (often mapped to the Shift, X, or Space key) is used for firing your weapons. The C-buttons (usually mapped to I, J, K, and L) help you look up, down, and strafe side-to-side, which is essential for dodging enemy projectiles.

Tips

  • Save the babes: Unlike the PC original, interacting with captured women in the N64 version will rescue them rather than harm them, completely restoring your health in the process.
  • Use the environment: Fire extinguishers, gas canisters, and even laser tripmines can be used to set traps or clear out groups of Pig Cops and Enforcers without wasting primary ammunition.
  • Search for secrets: The levels are packed with hidden areas behind cracked walls, ventilation shafts, and waterfalls. Keep an eye out for off-color textures that often hide powerful weapons early on.
