Duke Nukem 3D is a legendary 1996 first-person shooter developed by 3D Realms Entertainment for DOS. Running on the flexible Build engine, it set itself apart from other shooters of the era with highly interactive environments, a wisecracking protagonist, and detailed urban levels ranging from the streets of Los Angeles to a lunar base. You step into the boots of Duke to repel an alien invasion using a creative arsenal that goes far beyond the standard shotgun.
How to play
Your objective is to blast your way through each level, locate the exit symbol, and defeat the bosses commanding the alien forces. Since this runs via DOS emulation, it uses the original keyboard layout: use the arrow keys to move, Ctrl to fire, Spacebar to interact with doors and switches, and A or Z to jump and crouch. You can swap weapons using the number keys. Press Right Alt + Enter to toggle fullscreen mode.
Tips
- Keep an eye out for cracked walls and strange texturesโexplosives like pipe bombs and the RPG can blow these open to reveal hidden weapons and health items.
- Don’t forget to look up and down! Since enemies can attack from above or below, use the Page Up and Page Down keys to adjust your aim.
- Duke can interact with almost everything. Drinking from water fountains or broken fire hydrants will slowly replenish your health.
