Driving Force is a 1984 arcade racing game developed by Shinkai Inc., built to run on modified Galaxian boards fitted with a new ROM daughtercard (a separate version was also made for Pac-Man hardware). It is a top-down driving game where you race against the clock, passing other cars for bonus points while the road cycles through four conditions — clear daytime, snow, fog, and night — with fog being by far the hardest to see through.
How to Play
Steer with the joystick, hold the green button to accelerate, and use the red button to brake. Your score tracks the distance covered, plus bonus points for every car you pass. The clock keeps running, but driving through checkpoints extends your time. Score at least 10,000 points to enter your initials on the high score table.
Tips
- Checkpoints extend your clock, so treat reaching the next one as a higher priority than a risky pass.
- Ease off through the fog sections — they are the toughest to see through, and a crash there costs more time than a pass saves.
