Game description:

Released for the Arcade in 1989 by Irem, Dragon Breed is a distinctive horizontal shoot ’em up that sets itself apart with its unique mounting mechanic. Players control King Zamba, who rides atop Bahamut, a massive dragon whose elongated body is completely invincible to enemy attacks. This allows the dragon’s body to be used strategically as an indestructible shield, sweeping through enemies or curling up to protect the rider from incoming fire.

How to Play

Navigate through the side-scrolling stages to defeat waves of enemies and challenging bosses. The core mechanic relies on using your dragon’s body defensively while firing at foes. By default in the browser, use the Arrow keys to move, Z to shoot, and X to dismount or remount the dragon. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start the game.

Tips

  • Coil for defense: The dragon’s body is indestructible. Wrap its long tail tightly around your character to create an impenetrable barrier against dense bullet patterns.
  • Protect the rider: King Zamba is always vulnerable, even when mounted. Always position the dragon’s body between yourself and enemy fire to stay safe.
  • Strategic dismounting: Dismounting is useful in tight spaces. When Zamba is on foot, Bahamut will act as a stationary shield and automatically attack nearby enemies.
