Developed by Irem in 1989, Dragon Breed is a side-scrolling arcade shoot ’em up with a creative twist. You play as King Kayus, who rides into battle on the back of a massive dragon named Bahamoot. Instead of relying purely on dodging, the core of the experience revolves around using the dragon’s long, invincible body to block incoming enemy fire and sweep through waves of foes.
How to Play
Your goal is to guide Kayus and Bahamoot through multiple stages, defeating the Zaurun empire. Bahamoot’s body is completely immune to enemy projectiles, but Kayus himself is vulnerable, so you must carefully position the dragon to wrap around and protect your rider. You can even dismount onto certain platforms to increase your crossbow’s firepower while Bahamoot fights alongside you. For standard arcade controls in the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to fire, X for secondary actions, and Shift or Enter to insert coins and start.
Tips
- Master the tail whip: Bahamoot’s tail follows your movement with a slight delay. Practice whipping it in wide arcs to clear out enemies behind and below you.
- Charge your breath: Holding the fire button allows Bahamoot to unleash a devastating charged blast. Use this strategically against larger targets or dense clusters.
- Hunt for colored orbs: Shoot the smaller green dragons that appear to collect power-ups. Different colored orbs change Bahamoot’s attack type, giving you access to lightning, homing fireballs, or widespread projectiles.
