Released by Technōs Japan in 1987, Double Dragon defined the arcade beat ’em up genre. You take control of martial artist brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee as they battle through the streets of a post-apocalyptic New York to rescue Marian from the Black Warriors gang. The game introduced co-op brawling and the ability to pick up and use weapons dropped by enemies, setting the standard for the genre.
How to Play
Fight your way through four stages—the city slums, the factory, the woods, and the Black Warriors’ hideout. Defeat all enemies in an area to progress.
- Move: Arrow Keys
- Punch: Z
- Kick: X
- Jump: C
- Insert Coin: Shift
- Start: Enter
Tips
- The backward elbow strike (performed by pressing punch and jump simultaneously) is notoriously powerful and can safely defeat almost any enemy, including bosses.
- Weapons are incredibly useful. Focus on disarming enemies carrying baseball bats or whips, as these give you a significant reach advantage.
- Watch your positioning near ledges and conveyor belts; getting knocked out of bounds will instantly cost you a life regardless of your health.
