Double Dragon (Japan) (Beta) is a classic beat ’em up game developed by Technōs Japan and released for the NES in 1988. As an early or alternative build of the iconic arcade port, it delivers the foundational side-scrolling brawler action that helped define the genre. Players control martial artist Billy Lee as he fights his way through street gangs to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend, Marian.
How to Play
The objective is to progress through multiple stages, clearing the screen of enemies before moving forward. At the end of each level, you must defeat a powerful boss. Use the default NES controls mapped for the browser: navigate using the Arrow Keys, attack using Z (B button) and X (A button), and use Enter for Start and Shift for Select. Pressing both attack buttons simultaneously will execute a jumping kick.
Tips
- Master the Elbow Smash: The elbow smash is one of the most effective and safest moves in the game. Use it to quickly knock down enemies approaching from behind.
- Keep Enemies Grouped: Try to keep multiple enemies on one side of your character. Being surrounded makes you vulnerable to being stun-locked.
- Watch Out for Weapons: Disarm enemies carrying baseball bats, whips, or knives, and pick up their weapons to gain a significant advantage in reach and damage.
