Desert Commander is a turn-based strategy game for the NES, released by Kemco in 1989. Set in the North African theater of World War II, players command various military unitsโincluding tanks, infantry, fighters, and bombersโacross a hex grid to outmaneuver the enemy and capture their headquarters.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat the opposing army by either destroying all of their units or capturing their headquarters. Each unit type has different movement ranges, firepower, and terrain advantages. Use the Arrow Keys to move the cursor and navigate menus, X to select a unit or confirm an action, and Z to cancel. Press Enter to open the main menu and end your turn.
Tips
- Terrain matters: Position your units in cities or mountains to increase their defensive strength and make them harder to destroy.
- Protect your headquarters: If the enemy captures it, you lose the game immediately, regardless of how many units you have left.
- Air superiority: Use bombers against ground targets for heavy damage, but keep fighter planes nearby to protect them from enemy aircraft.
