Released by Taito in 1992, Dead Connection is a classic arcade multidirectional shooter set in the gritty 1950s. Drawing heavy inspiration from mobster films, you control a detective taking on an entire crime family. Rather than side-scrolling through levels, the action unfolds on detailed, single-screen backdrops like posh hotels and junkyards, culminating in chaotic, cinematic shootouts.
Your objective is to clear out all the mobsters on each screen to advance. The game features an 8-way directional firing system with a degree of auto-aim to help you target enemies. For the default arcade controls in your browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z and X for your primary actions (shooting and dodging), Enter for Start, and Shift to insert coins. You can also press the shoot button when right next to an enemy to trigger a melee attack.
Use your environment to your advantage. You can lie prone to avoid incoming gunfire or perform a diving somersault to take cover behind objects like tables and pillars. Keep in mind that scenery is highly destructible, so your cover won’t last forever under heavy fire.
