Darius (Japan) is the pioneering 1986 arcade horizontal-scrolling shooter developed by Taito. Famous for its original ultra-wide three-screen arcade cabinet, the game introduced players to a surreal universe of robotic sea creatures and a unique branching path system that became a hallmark of the genre.
How to Play
Pilot the Silver Hawk spacecraft through enemy territory, blasting through waves of foes and ground targets. At the end of each stage, you will face off against a massive aquatic boss before choosing your next zone. To play in the browser, press Shift (or 5) to insert a coin and Enter (or 1) to start. Use the Arrow Keys to steer the ship, and Z / X to fire your primary shot and bombs.
Tips
- Shoot specific colored enemies to reveal power-up orbs: red upgrades your main shot, green enhances your bombs, and blue strengthens your energy shield.
- Bosses have destructible parts; focus your fire on their fins or turrets to reduce their attack capabilities and rack up extra points.
- The branching zone map means your choices dictate the difficulty and the final ending. If a certain route is too tough, try selecting an alternate path on your next run.
