Game description:

Dance Dance Revolution – Extra Mix brings high-energy rhythm action to the PlayStation. Released by Konami in 2001, this entry in the legendary DDR series packs in a heavy tracklist drawn largely from the arcade hit DDR 4thMix Plus. It challenges players to match scrolling arrows perfectly to the beat across an eclectic mix of Eurobeat, electronic, and J-pop anthems. Whether you are playing with a controller or a dance pad, it delivers the fast-paced, reflex-testing gameplay that defined arcade rhythm games of the era.

How to Play

The objective is to hit the directional arrows precisely as they overlap the target zone at the top of the screen in time with the music. Better timing earns a higher grade, while missing notes depletes your dance gauge, eventually failing the song. In the browser, the PlayStation directional pad is mapped to the Arrow Keys, with Enter used for Start. Match the up, down, left, and right arrows to the rhythm to keep the crowd cheering.

Tips

  • Listen to the beat: The visual arrows can sometimes be overwhelming on higher difficulties; focusing on the underlying rhythm of the song will often guide your timing better than sight alone.
  • Start small: If you are new to the series, stick to the Basic difficulty to internalize the timing windows before taking on the rapid-fire streams found in Trick or Maniac modes.
