Continental Circus is a fast-paced Formula One racing game released for Arcades by Taito (this “World” edition being the 1989 release of the classic). Utilizing impressive 3D sprite-scaling for its era, players take the wheel of a high-speed F1 car and must race against the clock and rival drivers to qualify across various international circuits. A standout feature is its dynamic weather system; sudden rain showers require players to make strategic pit stops to change into wet tires, adding a layer of realism to the high-stakes arcade action.
How to Play
Your objective is to complete each race within the time limit while achieving a qualifying position to advance to the next track. Avoid collisions with other cars and trackside obstacles, as crashing will waste precious seconds. When it starts raining and the “PIT IN” message flashes, steer into the pit lane on the side of the track to swap your tires to prevent sliding out of control.
- Insert Coin: Shift (or 5)
- Start: Enter (or 1)
- Steer: Left / Right Arrow Keys
- Accelerate: Z
- Brake: X
- Shift Gear (Low/High): C
Tips
- Watch for the smoke coming off the tires of rival cars, which often telegraphs their lane changes so you can safely pass them.
- Do not ignore the pit warnings during rain. While a pit stop takes a few seconds, driving on slick tires will severely impact your handling and top speed, making it nearly impossible to qualify.
- Always stay in High gear unless you are recovering from a crash or starting the race.
