Game description:

Continental Circus is Taito’s 1987 arcade racing game, and this page runs the US-region “Set 2” ROM revision — one of several regional builds preserved alongside the World and Japan versions. Styled after Formula One competition, it puts players behind the wheel for a pseudo-3D dash across eight Grand Prix circuits, racing the clock and a full field of rivals to qualify for the next round.

How to Play

Each race has a time limit and a series of checkpoints — run out of time and it’s game over, so keep the throttle down and stay out of trouble. Clipping trackside barriers, checkpoint markers, or other cars costs precious seconds, and finishing outside the qualifying cutoff ends the run before the next circuit. Watch for rain: when the track turns wet, steer into the pit lane to swap tires or risk sliding out of control.

  • Insert Coin: Shift (or 5)
  • Start: Enter (or 1)
  • Steer: Left / Right Arrow Keys
  • Accelerate: Z
  • Brake: X
  • Shift Gear (Low/High): C

Tips

  • Stay in high gear except at the start or after a crash — low gear is only useful for regaining traction.
  • Rival cars often puff smoke before changing lanes; use that tell to pick your passing lane early.
  • Don’t ignore the pit warning in the rain — worn tires make the car nearly impossible to control, and that costs far more time than the pit stop itself.
