Commando World is the international arcade release of Capcom’s classic vertical-scrolling run-and-gun shooter, originally debuting in 1985. Taking control of a lone soldier named Super Joe, players are dropped into hostile territory and must battle their way forward through waves of enemy infantry, armed vehicles, and heavily fortified outposts. As one of the earliest and most influential games in its genre, it set the standard for top-down multidirectional action games.
How to Play
The objective is to survive and reach the end of each stage by eliminating enemy troops and destroying their encampments. The arcade controls use an eight-way joystick to move and aim, along with one button to fire your submachine gun and another to throw grenades. In the browser, you can use the arrow keys to move, while the Z and X keys act as your primary action buttons to shoot and toss explosives.
Tips
- Keep moving constantly to avoid incoming enemy fire, as standing still makes you an easy target for snipers and hidden troops.
- Save your grenades for clustered enemy formations or fortified bunkers that your standard shots cannot easily reach.
- Watch out for enemies attacking from behind or emerging from the sides of the screen.
