Commander Keen: Keen Dreams (also known as Commander Keen 3.5) is a 1991 DOS platformer developed by id Software. Originally published to fulfill a contractual obligation, it serves as a bridge between the Invasion of the Vorticons and Goodbye, Galaxy! series. The game follows Billy Blaze into a nightmare world of angry giant vegetables in the kingdom of Tuberia. Notably, Keen is stripped of his iconic pogo stick and stun gun in this adventure; he instead defends himself by throwing “Flower Power” pellets that temporarily turn his vegetable foes into harmless plants.
How to play
Your objective is to navigate the levels of Tuberia and ultimately defeat King Boobus Tuber. Without the pogo stick, you must rely on standard jumps and climbing poles. To attack, gather Flower Power pellets and throw them at enemies to safely pass or use them as stepping stones. The default DOS controls use the arrow keys for movement, Ctrl to jump, and Alt to fire. For full screen, press Alt + Enter.
Tips
Because enemies only stay as flowers temporarily, be prepared to move quickly after striking them. Explore carefully to find hidden items, and make sure to collect Boobus Bombs throughout the levels, as they are the only weapon capable of damaging the final boss.
