Comix Zone is a highly distinctive action beat ’em up developed by SEGA for the Sega Genesis in 1995. You play as Sketch Turner, an artist trapped inside his own creation by the villainous mutant Mortus. Instead of traditional scrolling levels, you fight your way through the actual panels of a comic book, tearing through pages, swinging between borders, and solving puzzles as the story unfolds around you.
How to play
The objective is to survive the pages of the comic, defeating mutants and finding the exit to each panel before your health runs out. Use your pet rat, Roadkill, to help solve puzzles and progress.
Controls: Arrow keys (â, â, â, â) for movement. Action buttons are mapped to S (A), X (B), and Z (C). Use Enter for Start, Shift for Mode, and the mouse to access the emulator menu.
Tips
- Avoid punching environmental obstacles like doors or metal crates unnecessarily, as hitting hard objects will drain your health.
- Deploy your rat, Roadkill, to discover hidden items, reveal power-ups, and flip switches that are out of reach.
- You can tear a piece of the comic page to create a paper airplane weapon. It instantly defeats many tough enemies, but costs a significant chunk of your health to use.
