Game description:

Codename: Tenka (also known as Lifeforce Tenka) is a first-person shooter released for the PlayStation in 1997 by Psygnosis. Set in a dark, dystopian future, you play as Joseph Tenka, a man fighting to bring down the ruthless Trojan corporation. Instead of juggling a large arsenal of firearms, you rely entirely on the SG-26, a modular weapon system that you continuously upgrade as you progress through the game’s atmospheric, futuristic levels.

How to Play

Your objective is to navigate complex facilities, defeat enemy forces, and collect security clearance cubes to unlock doors and weapon upgrades. Since it was released before the DualShock controller became standard, it uses classic “tank controls”. The PlayStation D-pad (mapped to the Arrow Keys) moves forward, backward, and turns. The shoulder buttons L1/R1 (mapped to Q/W) are essential for strafing side-to-side. Face buttons (mapped to Z, X, A, S) handle actions like shooting and crouching, with Enter and Shift for Start and Select.

Tips

  • Keep moving: Strafing with the shoulder buttons is critical during combat. Never stand still when exchanging fire with enemies.
  • Use the crouch: Codename: Tenka features a dedicated crouch mechanic. Use it frequently to make yourself a smaller target during firefights.
  • Rely on sticky aim: The game includes a built-in sticky aim feature to help you lock onto targets. Take advantage of this to compensate for the lack of analog precision.
