Cloak & Dagger is a 1983 multi-directional action shooter developed by Atari. Originally prototyped as Agent X, the game later became famous for its tie-in with the 1984 film of the same name. You control a secret agent attempting to infiltrate Dr. Boom’s underground laboratory. You must travel down 33 floors by elevator, retrieving top-secret plans and defusing a giant ticking bomb before escaping back to the surface.
How to Play
The original arcade cabinet used dual 8-way joysticksโone for moving and one for shooting in any direction. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move and standard action keys to fire independently. To progress, navigate the maze of conveyor belts and acid pits to reach the central plans. The plans are protected by an electrical arc, which you disable by shooting the fiery nodes surrounding it.
Tips for Survival
- Mind the Explosives: Green boxes are unarmed explosives that you can safely collect, but red boxes are armed and will explode on contact.
- Use the Map on Minefields: Every fourth level is a dangerous minefield. Collect secret maps on the preceding floors to reveal a safe path through these sections.
- Prepare for the Escape: Once you retrieve the plans from the bottom floor, you must return to the surface. Any floors you bombed on the way down will now feature massive craters and dangerous node monsters on your way back up.
