Chuka Taisen World (also known as Cloud Master in the West) is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Taito and released in arcades in 1988. Set in a fantasy version of ancient China, you control Michael Chen as he rides a flying cloud, battling through stages filled with bizarre mythological enemies ranging from flying ramen bowls to stylized Buddhas.
How to play
Your goal is to survive each horizontally scrolling stage and defeat the boss at the end. You start with a basic projectile, but defeating certain enemies grants access to mid-air shops where you can acquire powerful subweapons like bombs and multi-directional shots. Use the arrow keys to move your cloud, Shift to insert a coin, Enter to start, and Z/X to shoot and use subweapons.
Tips
- Your initial shot is quite weak. Prioritize defeating enemies that drop power-ups or open shops to upgrade your firepower as early as possible.
- The game uses a harsh checkpoint system. Since dying sends you back without your weapon upgrades, focus on memorizing enemy patterns rather than just reacting to them.
