Chelnov Atomic Runner World (often known simply as Atomic Runner) is a unique auto-scrolling run-and-gun action game released by Data East for the Arcade in 1988. You play as Chelnov, a coal miner who miraculously survives a nuclear explosion and gains superhuman abilities, now tasked with battling a sudden alien invasion.

How to Play

The game is a forced side-scroller where Chelnov constantly runs forward. Your objective is to survive the relentless alien assault while navigating platforming hazards. In the browser, use the Arrow keys to move, Z to Attack, X to Jump, and C to turn around—a crucial move that allows you to shoot at enemies behind you while still running forwards. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start.

Tips

Mastering the turnaround mechanic is essential, as enemies will frequently ambush you from the left side of the screen.
