Chase H.Q. is a high-speed arcade pursuit game released by Taito in 1988. As an undercover detective, you get behind the wheel of a sleek black sports car to chase down fleeing criminals on busy highways. It redefined the arcade racing genre by shifting the focus from simply beating the clock or overtaking opponents to engaging in high-stakes, aggressive vehicular combat.
How to Play
Your goal in each stage is to catch up to the target vehicle before the initial timer runs out, then repeatedly ram into it to disable it before the pursuit timer expires. You’ll need to dodge civilian traffic, navigate forks in the road, and master your limited turbo boosts to smash the suspect’s car off the road. In the browser arcade emulator, use the Arrow keys to steer, accelerate, and brake. Use the Z and X keys to shift gears and activate your turbo boost. Press 5 to insert a coin and 1 to start.
Tips for Success
- Save your turbos: You only have three turbo boosts per stage. Save them for the final pursuit phase when you need to close the distance quickly or deliver a massive ramming hit on straightaways.
- Watch the road forks: Nancy at Chase Headquarters will often point you in the correct direction. Taking the wrong fork won’t end the game, but it can cost you valuable time.
- Master the gear shift: Use the low gear to recover quickly if you crash, then immediately shift into high gear to maintain pursuit speeds.
