Champion Wrestler is a classic arcade wrestling game developed by Taito and released in 1989. Step into the ring and battle your way to the championship in this retro arcade title. Known for its intense action and unique mechanics, players can choose from a roster of distinct wrestlers, each with their own signature techniques, and compete in standard bouts as well as grueling cage matches.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat your opponents and win the championship by climbing the ranks. Matches are won via pinfall, submission, or count-out. To perform basic actions, use the directional keys to move your wrestler around the ring. Press the action buttons to strike and grapple.
Tips
- Manage Your Power: Pay close attention to your power gauge. Tap the directional controls continuously to build your power into the blue zone, which is required to successfully execute strong grapples and signature moves.
- Timing is Everything: Don’t attempt your most powerful moves right away. Wear down your opponent with basic strikes first; attempting a strong grapple while their health is high will likely result in a reversal.
- Use the Environment: In stages 3 and 6, you will face cage matches. Avoid running into the cage yourself, but try to throw or slam your opponent into it to deal extra damage. Also, watch out for managers at ringside throwing weapons into the ring!
