Game description:

Star Wars (Japan) is a 1991 side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Namco for the Famicom (NES). This Japan-exclusive release is legendary for its surreal departures from the films, featuring Luke Skywalker fighting his way through bizarre levels to confront a Darth Vader who repeatedly transforms into creatures like a giant scorpion, a shark, and a pterodactyl.

How to Play

Navigate hostile planets, rescue your allies, and pilot the Millennium Falcon to ultimately destroy the Death Star. In the browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to attack with your lightsaber or blaster. Enter acts as Start, and Shift acts as Select.

Tips

  • Luke's lightsaber requires getting dangerously close to enemies; use patience and learn their movement patterns before committing to an attack.
  • Collecting the diamonds scattered across the levels will eventually earn you extra lives, which are essential for surviving the steep difficulty curve.
  • During the boss fights, Darth Vader's animal transformations each have distinct attack patterns; observe their movements carefully to find safe openings.
