Castlevania Bloodlines is a 1994 action platformer developed by Konami for the Sega Genesis. Distinct from its console counterparts, this entry moves the vampire-hunting action out of Dracula’s castle and across Europe during World War I. You choose between two distinct heroes: the whip-wielding John Morris and the spear-carrying Eric Lecarde. Taking advantage of the Genesis hardware, it delivers faster-paced combat, larger sprites, and inventive visual effects.
How to play
Your goal is to battle through six stages across Europe to stop the resurrection of Dracula. Use the Arrow keys to move, press X to attack, and Z to jump. Enter pauses the game. Each character has a unique traversal ability to master: John can whip diagonally onto ceilings to swing across wide gaps, while Eric can plant his spear and vault to higher platforms.
Tips
- Experiment with both characters, as their distinct weapons and traversal abilities open up different routes and change how you approach each stage.
- Eric’s upward spear thrust is incredibly effective for clearing enemies on platforms above you before you jump up.
- When your weapon is fully powered to its highest level, taking a hit will downgrade it. Prioritise evasion during boss fights rather than trading damage.
