Cabal is a classic behind-the-back gallery shooter originally developed for arcades in 1988 before making its way to the NES. You control an elite commando deployed to hostile bases, taking on armies of foot soldiers, tanks, and helicopters from a fixed perspective. The game stands out for its fully destructible environmentsโalmost everything on screen, from buildings to sandbags, can be blasted into rubble to deny the enemy cover.
How to Play
Your objective is to defeat enough enemies to fill the progress bar at the bottom of the screen and advance to the next stage.
- D-pad (Arrow keys): Move your character and crosshair simultaneously.
- A button (Z or X): Fire your primary weapon. Holding the button locks your commando in place, allowing you to sweep the crosshair freely across the screen.
- B button (X or Z): Throw a grenade at your crosshair’s location.
- Start/Select (Enter/Shift): Pause and start the game.
Tips
- Keep moving when under fire. Only lock your position to shoot when you have a safe opening or solid cover in front of you.
- Keep an eye out for medics, pigs, and other small targets running across the background. Shoot them for weapon upgrades and bonus points.
- Don’t hoard your grenades. Use them immediately on heavily armored targets like helicopters and tanks to stop them from flooding the screen with bullets.
