Game description:

Burning Force is a 1989 forward-scrolling arcade shooter developed by Namco. You play as space cadet Hiromi Tengenji during a six-day graduation test. Throughout the first two sections of each day, you pilot the “Sign Duck” airbike along the ground, dodging obstacles and managing your speed. In the third area, the bike transforms into a fully maneuverable jet fighter for the boss encounter, switching the gameplay to a fast-paced aerial dogfight.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive all six training days by shooting down enemy waves and defeating each day’s boss. While on the ground, your movement is restricted to steering left and right, with up and down controlling your acceleration and braking. After clearing a boss, you enter a peaceful bonus stage to collect spheres for extra points.

  • Insert Coin: 5
  • Start: 1
  • Movement: Arrow Keys (Up/Down controls speed on the ground, full flight in the air)
  • Fire: Z
  • Missiles: X

Tips

  • During the ground sections, use your acceleration and braking carefully; slowing down gives you more time to dodge incoming projectiles and line up shots.
  • Pick up weapon power-ups to upgrade your main gun with wide-spread beams or cross-lasers, and restock your limited missile supply.
  • Pay attention to the briefing sequence before each boss fight, as it highlights specific weak points you need to target.
