Boulder Dash is a classic action-puzzle game on the Game Boy where you play as the intrepid prospector Rockford. Digging through dirt-filled underground caves, your goal is to collect a set number of sparkling diamonds to open the exit before the timer runs out, all while avoiding deadly hazards and outsmarting the underground wildlife.
How to Play
You must collect the required number of diamonds in each cave to reveal the exit, then reach it safely. Watch out for gravity: boulders will fall if the dirt supporting them is removed, which can quickly crush Rockford if you aren’t careful. Use the Arrow Keys to move and dig. By holding Z or X while pressing a direction, you can reach out to grab a diamond or dig dirt without actually moving into that space. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Enemies follow strict movement patterns. Butterflies, for instance, will explode into a cluster of diamonds if crushed by a falling boulderโa trick that is mandatory for completing certain caves.
- You can safely support a boulder on your head, but the moment you move left, right, or down, it will fall.
- If you find yourself trapped by boulders with no way out, you can press Select to give up a life and restart the cave.
