Bonk’s Revenge (also known as GB Genjin) for the Game Boy is an action-platformer developed by Red Company and published by Hudson Soft in 1994. Unlike the TurboGrafx-16 game of the same name, this portable version features entirely original levels and mechanics while retaining the series’ signature prehistoric head-bashing combat.
How to Play
Guide Bonk through side-scrolling stages, defeating enemies with his rock-hard head to reach the boss at the end of each world. Collect pieces of meat to transform into different forms with unique abilities.
- Arrow Keys: Move left / right
- Z: Jump
- X: Headbutt / Dive in mid-air
- Enter: Pause
Tips
- Meat Transformations: Grabbing meat cycles you through three distinct forms. Master Bonk (with a cape) jumps higher, Hungry Bonk (sharp teeth) creates ground shockwaves when diving, and Stealth Bonk (striped outfit) can unlock special doors.
- Choose Doors Carefully: Stealth Bonk can open locked doors to access bonus rooms. While some rooms offer health or extra meat, watch out for the “Jail” room, which will steal half of your collected Smileys.
- Dive Precision: When you perform a diving headbutt in mid-air, your descent slows down significantly, allowing you to easily aim and accurately land on enemies below.
