Released in arcades in 1987 by Capcom, Black Tiger is a side-scrolling action platformer that follows a barbarian on a quest to slay three evil dragons. Players fight through eight sprawling, trap-filled levels using a mace that simultaneously shoots flying daggers, collecting “Zenny” coins dropped by enemies or found in pots. The game stands out for its unique blend of fast-paced hack-and-slash combat and light RPG elements, such as rescuing petrified wise men to access hidden shops and purchase vital upgrades.
How to Play
The goal is to reach the end of each stage, defeat the area boss, and eventually slay the Black Dragon. In the browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys to move, climb ladders, and crouch. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Use the Z key to attack and the X key to jump.
Tips
- Hit the walls: Striking seemingly empty walls with your weapon will often reveal hidden Zenny coins, bonus point items, or secret doors to shops.
- Prioritize armor: Your default weapon is strong enough for the early areas, so spend your first few batches of Zenny on armor upgrades to survive more hits before taking raw damage.
- Manage your health: Your vitality meter constantly drains slowly as a timer, and certain enemies can poison you to drain it faster. Buy vitality potions from the wise men if you are running low.
