Game description:

Released in 1991 by Wisdom Tree, Bible Adventures is a famously unlicensed 8-bit platformer for the NES that bypasses Nintendo’s strict lock-out chip. Rather than a single continuous journey, the cartridge offers three distinct games based on Old Testament stories: Noah’s Ark, Baby Moses, and David and Goliath. Heavily inspired by the carrying and throwing mechanics of Super Mario Bros. 2, the gameplay primarily involves lifting animals, characters, or items and carrying them to specific locations while avoiding hazards.

How to Play

Each of the three games shares the same basic objective: find and carry specific items or animals to a designated goal area. In Noah’s Ark, you must carry animals into the ark; in Baby Moses, Miriam must carry Moses past Egyptian guards; and in David and Goliath, David must round up sheep and dodge predators. The default NES controls mapped for your browser are the Arrow Keys for movement, Z to jump, and X to pick up and throw objects or animals. You can stack multiple items or animals on top of your character, allowing you to transport several at once.

Tips

  • Stack carefully: You can carry up to four animals or items at once, which saves time, but being hit by an enemy will cause you to drop the entire stack, forcing you to gather them again.
  • Watch Moses’ health: In the Baby Moses level, enemies can damage Moses if you are holding him, so occasionally set him down in a safe spot to clear out guards ahead.
  • Use the environment: Animals often try to wander away; use the terrain to trap them in corners before trying to pick them up, especially faster creatures like monkeys.
