Asteroids Deluxe is an action shooter released for the Atari 7800 by Atari and AtariAge in 1981. Building on the classic arcade original, players pilot a spacecraft through a hazardous asteroid field, destroying space rocks while surviving newly introduced threats like homing killer satellites.
How to play
The objective is to clear the screen of asteroids and enemy ships without being destroyed. Instead of the unpredictable hyperspace jump from the original game, players can activate a temporary shield to deflect collisions. Steer your ship using the arrow keys to rotate and thrust, fire your weapon with X, and deploy the shield with Z. Press Enter to pause, Shift to select options, and A to reset the game.
Tips
- When the killer satellite appears, be prepared: destroying it splits it into smaller, diamond-shaped ships that relentlessly track your position.
- Avoid relying on the shield as a constant defense; its energy drains quickly when activated and will leave you vulnerable if held too long.
- Clear out the small, fast-moving flying saucers immediately, as their high accuracy makes them the most lethal threat on the board.
