Originally an arcade sensation from 1980, Nichibutsu’s Moon Cresta is a classic shooter brought to the Atari 7800. Instead of traditional extra lives, you pilot a three-stage starship. You begin with a small, single-laser fighter; if it is destroyed, you take command of the wider second stage with twin lasers, and finally the third. Surviving enemy attack waves eventually lets you attempt to dock these stages together in a tricky mini-game, granting massive firepower at the cost of being a much larger target.
How to Play
Your goal is to clear continuous waves of erratic alien enemiesโsuch as the swooping Cold Eyes and split-apart Meteorsโto rack up points and reclaim your ship’s segments. Move left and right to dodge and fire back.

Tips
- During the docking sequence, use very short taps of your thrusters to line up perfectly. Crashing during docking will destroy the ship segment you are trying to attach.
- When you have successfully docked multiple stages, your ship becomes very wide. Focus on staying near the center of the screen so you don’t get trapped in a corner by sweeping enemies.
