Astérix is a 1993 action platformer for the SNES developed by Infogrames. Based on the classic French comic series, the game puts you in control of the famously strong Gaul on a quest across the Roman Empire to rescue his kidnapped friend, Obelix. Known for its colorful graphics that closely match the comic’s art style, the game delivers challenging, timing-based platforming across varied environments.
How to play
Navigate each level by running, jumping, and punching Roman soldiers out of your way. The emulator controls map the SNES gamepad to your keyboard: use the arrow keys for movement, Z and X for the A and B buttons, and A and S for the X and Y buttons. The Q and E keys act as the L and R shoulder buttons, with Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Grab the magic potion flask whenever it appears—it grants temporary invincibility, letting you blast through enemies without taking damage.
- Collect stars scattered throughout the levels. Gathering enough will earn you an extra life, which you will need for the demanding later stages.
- Some jumps cannot be made at walking speed. Make sure you have enough room to build momentum before leaping over large pits.
