Arkanoid Us is the North American release of Taito's legendary 1986 arcade block-breaker. Taking the classic Breakout formula and adding sci-fi elements, power-ups, and different block types, it became a defining title of the genre. You control the Vaus, a small spacecraft, tasked with clearing formations of colored blocks while preventing the energy ball from falling off the bottom of the screen.
How to Play
The objective is to destroy all the destructible blocks on the screen to advance to the next round. Move your paddle left and right to bounce the ball upwards. The original arcade cabinet used a rotary spinner, but in this browser version, use the Left and Right arrow keys to move. Press Shift to insert coins, Enter to start, and use the Z or X keys to fire lasers or release the ball when using power-ups.
Tips
- Prioritize Power-ups: The “L” (Laser) pill is incredibly powerful for blasting through tough blocks, while the “C” (Catch) pill lets you hold the ball and reposition before releasing it.
- Control the Angle: Where the ball strikes the Vaus paddle determines its trajectory. Hitting it near the edges will send it at a sharper, faster angle.
- Beware the Speed: The ball's speed increases the longer it stays in play and when it bounces off the very top wall. Be ready to react quickly as the round progresses.
