Aquarium Japan is a competitive falling-block puzzle game released in 1996 for arcade systems. Similar in style to Puyo Puyo, you control sets of three marine-themed pieces that fall from the top of the screen. The goal is to rotate and arrange these pieces to create clusters of three or more of the same type of fish, which then disappear from the board.
How to play
Use the arcade joystick or directional controls to move the falling pieces left or right, and the action buttons to rotate the set of three fish. Some fish fall encased in bubbles; these bubbles must be popped by creating adjacent matches before the encased fish can be cleared. If your playing field fills up completely, the game ends. You can play solo against computer opponents or challenge another human player.
Tips
- Focus on setting up chain reactions. Clearing multiple sets in a row will send garbage blocks to your opponent's screen.
- Prioritize popping bubbles quickly, as they can rapidly clutter your board and limit your placement options.
