Game description:

Anmitsu Hime is a 1987 action-adventure game developed by Sega for the Master System, released exclusively in Japan. Based on a popular manga and anime series, the game follows the tomboy princess Anmitsu as she explores Amakara Castle. The title is famously known to Western audiences as the base game for Alex Kidd: High-Tech World, which was a heavy graphical modification of this release. Playing the original Japanese version lets you experience the intended narrative and historical setting before it was reskinned.

How to Play

The game blends two distinct styles: adventure segments where you explore the castle to gather items and talk to characters, and side-scrolling action platforming sections. In the adventure phases, you must solve puzzles and find specific objects to progress the story. Since the dialogue is entirely in Japanese, non-speakers will need to rely on trial and error or a walkthrough. Use the Arrow keys to move and navigate menus. Press Z and X for your action buttons (such as jumping and interacting), and Enter to pause the game.

Tips

  • The adventure segments are strictly time-limited. Try to quickly identify where key items are located so you don’t run out of time on the clock.
  • Be thorough when exploring the castle. Many essential progression items are hidden in rooms that might initially appear empty.
  • The platforming sections (like the ninja forest) are highly unforgiving with instant-death obstacles. Memorizing enemy placement is essential for survival.
