Originally released in 1994 by Koei’s Ruby Party, Angelique for the Super Famicom (SNES) is widely recognized as the very first otome game. As a candidate to become the next Queen of the Cosmos, you are tasked with cultivating a barren continent while competing against your rival, Rosalia. To succeed, you must call upon nine elemental Guardiansโeach with their own distinct personalityโwho can lend their power to your land or sabotage your opponent. This version features a complete English fan translation, allowing international players to experience the foundational title that launched the dating simulation genre for women.
How to play
The objective is to successfully populate and develop your continent until it reaches the center of the map, or to fall in love with one of the Guardians and choose a life with him over the crown. You must balance your time between building your land, interacting with the Guardians, and visiting the fortune teller. The SNES controls map the D-pad to the arrow keys for navigation, while the A, B, X, and Y buttons are bound to Z, X, A, and S. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select to access menus.
Tips
- Building relationships with the Guardians is crucial; high affection means they are more likely to grant power to your land and less likely to assist Rosalia.
- Pay attention to the compatibility levels at the fortune teller, as they dictate how easily you can bond with each Guardian.
- Sometimes it is strategically wise to ask a Guardian to sabotage your rival’s continent if she is progressing too quickly.
