Air Combat is a 1995 arcade flight simulator developed by Namco for the PlayStation. As the first console entry in what would become the legendary Ace Combat series, it puts you in the cockpit of a mercenary fighter jet tasked with stopping a heavily armed terrorist uprising. Completing missions earns you cash, which can be spent between sorties to purchase faster and more durable aircraft.
How to Play
The objective is to navigate 3D environments, track down designated targets, and destroy them before the mission timer expires. Since the game runs via a web emulator, the default PlayStation controls map the D-pad to your Arrow keys for maneuvering. Use the action keys (Z, X, A, and S) to control your throttle, fire machine guns, and launch guided missiles. Enter acts as the Start button to pause.
Tips
- Conserve your payload: You carry a limited number of guided missiles. Rely on your machine guns for stationary ground targets and save the missiles for agile enemy fighters.
- Use the radar: Head-on passes are dangerous. Keep an eye on your radar display to get behind enemy planes where it is easier to secure a missile lock.
- Upgrade your aircraft: The starter plane will struggle in later missions. Spend your earnings on superior jets as soon as they become available.
