Game description:

The Adventures of Rad Gravity is a science-fiction action-platformer released for the NES by Interplay Productions and published by Activision in 1990. You play as Rad Gravity, an interstellar troubleshooter who teams up with a talking shipboard computer named Kakos to track down a race of sentient machines, the Compuminds, that have been deactivated and scattered across a string of alien worlds. Rather than a straight run of levels, the game blends platforming and combat with exploration and dialogue, sending Rad hopping between wildly different planets — from the neon corridors of the cyberpunk world Cyberia to the toxic wastes of Effluvia and the jungles of Sauria.

How to Play

Your goal on each planet is to fight through its hazards, talk to the computers and characters you find, and use what they tell you to unlock teleporter coordinates to the next world. The game is largely non-linear: once you’ve opened up a handful of destinations, you can tackle them in whatever order you like. As an NES platformer adapted for the browser, move with the arrow keys, jump and fire your blaster with Z and X, and use Enter and Shift for Start and Select.

Tips

  • Talk before you fight: the computers and NPCs scattered around each planet hand out the teleporter coordinates you need to reach new worlds — track them down before you go looking for a way off-planet.
  • Stuck on one world? Try another: because you can visit unlocked planets in any order, a planet that’s giving you trouble can often wait while you make progress elsewhere.
  • Get your bearings on Turvia: this planet flips gravity, putting Rad and the whole level upside-down, so be ready to rethink your jumps and dodges the moment you land.
