46 Okunen Monogatari – Harukanaru Eden e is the original Japanese release of the highly unique action-RPG E.V.O.: Search for Eden, released for the Super Famicom in 1992 by Almanic Corp and Enix. In this distinctive evolutionary platformer, you begin as a simple fish in the ancient oceans and battle for survival across billions of years of Earth’s history. By defeating enemies and eating their meat, you earn Evo Points to evolve your creature’s jaws, body, armor, and limbs, dynamically changing both your appearance and abilities as you progress through the ages of amphibians, dinosaurs, and mammals.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive each era and adapt to changing environments while uncovering the mysteries of Eden. Use the D-Pad to move your creature, Y to bite or attack, and B to jump. The Select or Start buttons open your evolution menu, where you can spend your earned Evo Points to upgrade different body parts. In your browser, these SNES controls map to your arrow keys for movement, Z for attack (Y), X for jump (B), and Enter/Shift for Start and Select.
Evolution Tips
- Save your Evo Points: Upgrading jaws early on will drastically increase your damage output, making it much easier to farm points for more expensive body and armor upgrades later.
- Keep a backup save: The evolutionary paths are extensive. If you accidentally evolve into a form with poor mobility or low defense for a tough boss fight, it helps to have points saved up or an earlier save state.
- The mysterious crystals: Look out for special crystals hidden in levels; they provide temporary transformations or unique abilities that can turn the tide in difficult eras.
