Best of the Best Championship Karate is a 1-on-1 karate tournament game developed by Futura and published by Loriciels for the NES in 1992. It takes the sport seriously — bouts reward timing, distance management, and clean technique over rapid button presses, making it closer to a sports simulation than a typical arcade fighter of the era.
How to Play
Move your fighter with the arrow keys. X maps to the NES A button (primary attack) and Z to B (secondary action). Enter starts and Shift is Select. Two players can share one keyboard using the same key layout, or connect a gamepad for the full experience the game was designed around.
Tips
- Control the distance — step in to land a clean shot, then back out immediately to reset. Staying at mid-range gives you room to react and punish overcommitments.
- Be patient with your attacks. Throwing moves too early telegraphs your intentions and leaves you open to a counter; wait for the opening before committing.
