Wings of Fury is a side-scrolling flight combat action game released for the Game Boy Color in 1999. Bringing the classic World War II gameplay of the original computer title to a handheld console, it puts players in the cockpit of an American F6F Hellcat. You are tasked with completing various combat missions that involve taking off from an aircraft carrier, dogfighting enemy planes, and strafing or bombing island bases and naval vessels before returning safely to deck.

How to Play

To succeed in your missions, you must manage your aircraft’s altitude, speed, and fuel while alternating between machine guns, bombs, and torpedoes depending on the target. In the browser emulator, the Game Boy Color controls map to the arrow keys for maneuvering your plane, with the Z and X keys acting as the A and B buttons to fire weapons and accelerate. Use Enter (Start) to pause the game or view the mission map, and Shift (Select) to switch your equipped secondary weapon.

Tips

Taking off and landing on the aircraft carrier can be tricky; make sure to build enough speed along the runway before pulling up, and ensure you are approaching the deck at a slow, controlled horizontal descent to land safely. Keep a close eye on your damage and fuel gauges, as extended dogfights can drain your resources rapidly, forcing a crash if you cannot make it back to the carrier to repair and rearm in time.
