Released for the PlayStation in 1997, Namco Museum Vol. 5 is a retro compilation by Namco that brings five classic arcade titles to a home console. The collection features Pac-Mania, Dragon Spirit, Metro-Cross, Baraduke, and Legend of Valkyrie. Players can explore a 3D virtual museum to view original arcade cabinets, promotional artwork, and developer materials before diving into the emulated games.
How to Play
Each included arcade game has its own specific mechanics, ranging from the isometric maze navigation of Pac-Mania to the vertical shoot-’em-up action of Dragon Spirit. Default PlayStation controls map movement to the D-pad (arrow keys in your browser) and main actions to the face buttons, which map to the Z, X, A, and S keys. Use Start (Enter) to begin or pause a game, and Select (Shift) to insert virtual coins or access the menu.
Tips
- In Pac-Mania, you can jump over most ghosts, but be careful of the green and grey ones who can also jump to intercept you.
- When playing Dragon Spirit, taking damage will reduce your dragon’s power level. Prioritise collecting power-ups like extra heads and enhanced firepower early in the stage to make bosses easier.
- In the virtual museum mode, check the interactive exhibits carefully, as they contain high-resolution scans of original arcade marquees and flyers that give insight into each game’s mechanics.
