Developed and published by Namco, Klonoa Beach Volleyball is a 2002 PlayStation spin-off that traded platforming for the sand, putting Klonoa and the cast of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile into fast 2-on-2 beach volleyball matches. This is the Europe release, notable for giving every character full voice acting in English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian — a first for the series — and it also holds the small distinction of being the last game Namco ever published for the original PlayStation.
How to Play
Team up in 2-on-2 matches and rally the ball back over the net; the first team to 10 points takes the set. Every character has one unique special shot that can be worth up to nine points in a single hit, so timing it right can swing a whole match. A Championship tournament mode strings matches together across the game’s beach courts, a Training mode walks newcomers through the basics, and up to four players can join in locally with a multitap. Default browser controls for the PS1 emulator:
- Arrow Keys (D-Pad): Move your player around the court
- Z Key (Square Button): Bump / set the ball
- X Key (Cross Button): Spike / attack the ball
- C Key (Circle Button): Unleash your character’s special shot
- S Key (Triangle Button): Jump
- Enter (Start): Pause match / menu
Tips
- Save your special shot for set point: since a single connect can be worth up to nine points, holding it for a close rally can end the set outright.
