Developed by Technos Japan Corp. and published in North America by American Technos Inc., Geom Cube is a three-dimensional falling-block puzzle game released for the PlayStation in December 1995 (following a Japanese release the year before). Built around a Tetris-inspired concept, it drops geometric blocks into a 4×4 pit rather than a flat 2D well, challenging players to completely fill a level of the pit so it clears before the stack reaches the top.
How to Play
Guide 24 different block shapes as they fall, packing each layer of the pit completely so it disappears rather than letting blocks stack up to the top. Play the fast, time-limited Finite mode, the more relaxed Infinite mode, or take on up to eight computer-controlled opponents in versus play, where clearing a layer sends it across to your rival’s side. Two players can also compete head-to-head locally in a split-screen match. Default browser controls for the PS1 emulator are mapped as follows:
- Arrow Keys (D-Pad): Move the falling block within the pit
- Z / X / C / S Keys (Square / Cross / Circle / Triangle Buttons): Rotate the falling block
- Enter (Start): Pause the game / open the menu
Tips
- Chase full layers in versus mode: only a completely filled layer clears and gets sent to your opponent’s pit, so build outward evenly rather than stacking blocks in one corner.
- Learn the shapes in Infinite mode first: its slower pace is a good way to get a feel for how the 24 block shapes fit together before testing yourself against the clock in Finite mode.
