Game description:

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys is a 1991 action-RPG developed by Falcom for the NES. Marking a major departure for the series, this entry shifts from the traditional top-down perspective to a side-scrolling action-platformer format, giving players direct control over Adol Christin’s swordplay and platforming skills.

How to Play

Navigate through dungeons and overworld areas, defeat enemies to earn experience, and explore towns to upgrade your equipment. Because it plays as a side-scroller, precision platforming and timed sword strikes are key. In the web browser, the NES D-pad is mapped to your arrow keys. Use the Z and X keys for the A and B buttons to jump and attack. Enter acts as Start, and Shift acts as Select.

Tips

  • Level up early: Taking a few extra minutes to grind for experience and gold just outside the first town will make your early progression and first boss fight significantly easier.
  • Master the downward thrust: By attacking downward while in mid-air, you can strike enemies from above while staying out of range of many ground attacks.
  • Manage your Ring Power: You will acquire various magical rings throughout your adventure. The Power Ring (which doubles your damage) and the Shield Ring (which halves incoming damage) drain Ring Power quickly but are invaluable for surviving tough boss encounters.
