Game description:

Step into a gritty, cyberpunk vision of 2058 Seattle in Shadowrun, released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Developed by BlueSky Software (credited alongside Beam Software), this open-ended action RPG puts you in the shoes of Joshua, a shadowrunner investigating the murder of his brother. Blending real-time combat, deep character progression using Karma, and the ability to hire a crew of specialized mercenaries, the game offers a massive sandbox experience. You can take on corporate extraction jobs, engage in shootouts in the Barrens, or jack directly into the Matrix to steal valuable data files.

How to play

Your goal is to uncover the conspiracy behind your brother’s death while surviving the harsh corporate dystopia. Earning nuyen (money) and Karma allows you to upgrade your weapons, magic, and cyberware. Use the following controls to navigate the world and menus:

Tips

  • Grind early in the Redmond Barrens: Take simple ghoul-hunting runs or package deliveries to build up your initial nuyen and Karma before tackling harder areas.
  • Invest in a datajack and deck: Hacking the Matrix is one of the most lucrative ways to make money. Upgrade your cyberdeck’s memory and programs as soon as possible.
  • Hire the right team: You don’t have to do everything yourself. If your character focuses on combat, hire a decker to handle the Matrix or a shaman for magical healing and support.
