Game description:

10-Yard Fight is a foundational American football game originally developed by Irem and brought to the NES in 1985. As one of the earliest entries in the genre, it focuses on fast, arcade-style gameplay over complex sports simulation. You view the field from a top-down perspective, playing a streamlined version of the sport without deep play-calling or intricate team formations.

The objective is straightforward: drive down the field to score a touchdown by securing at least 10 yards per down to maintain possession. On offense, you start as the quarterback and can either scramble with the ball or toss a forward pass. On defense, your goal is to break through the offensive line and tackle the ball carrier. Use the D-pad (arrow keys) to move. On offense, press B (X key) to snap the ball and A (Z key) to pass. On defense, use the buttons to dive or switch to the player closest to the ball. Press Start (Enter) to begin.

Because the passing mechanics are quite rigid, running the ball yourself as the quarterback is often the safest and most reliable way to gain yardage. If you do pass, make sure to lead your receiver slightly so they catch it in stride. On defense, try to immediately shoot through the gaps in the offensive line the moment the ball is snapped to pressure the quarterback.
