Sonic the Hedgehog: Isle of Magnetic Artifacts is a major ROM hack of the original Sonic 1 for the Sega Genesis, created by Neo Team Kyukyoku in 2022. It overhauls the game with a distinct Japanese-inspired aesthetic, custom music, and advanced graphical effects. In the demo, you explore Blossom Gardens Zone, the resting place of a tribe that worshipped star gods, accompanied by a brand new character, Abbey the Flicky.
How to Play
You can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. Abbey the Flicky will fly alongside you, helping to collect nearby rings and circling hidden monitors so you don’t miss them. Use the standard Genesis controls: the D-pad to move and A/B/C (mapped to Z, X, or C on your keyboard) to jump. If you are playing as Sonic, you can use the modern Drop Dash by holding jump in mid-air.
Tips
- Pay close attention to Abbey the Flickyโif she starts circling an empty area, jump or roll into it to reveal a hidden item box.
- Use Sonic’s Drop Dash to maintain momentum when hitting the ground, which is especially useful for climbing steep inclines quickly.
